RBCH architectes wins tender for the redesign of the station buildings of the new Horneggli cable car, Schönried

Bergbahnen Destination Gstaad AG is pleased to announce that RBCH architectes from Château-d'Oex has won the study contract for the redesign of the valley station, middle station and mountain station of the new Horneggli cable car. After careful consideration of the proposals from three renowned local architecture firms, the assessment panel, consisting mainly of experts such as external architects and landscape architects, decided in favour of RBCH architectes.

The architecture of the winning project by RBCH architectes is simple and contemporary. The railway stations blend in very well with the settlement structure and the landscape. The resolution of the individual building sections of the valley station is convincing, meaning that the buildings are well integrated into the surroundings. For the assessment panel, the design of the buildings is of high quality and convincing.

Matthias In-Albon, CEO of Bergbahnen Destination Gstaad AG, commented: "We would like to thank all three offices involved for the passion and great commitment shown during the process. The winning project is authentic and very appealing. The architectural style is simple and modest and blends in very well with the surroundings. The operational processes also functioned very well, which was also an important criterion."

The next step involves awarding the contract to the railway manufacturer at the beginning of May 2024. Once the contract has been awarded, RBCH architectes and the selected railway manufacturer will work closely together to finalise the project.

Nicolas Cretegny, Project Manager and Partner at RBCH architectes, explains: ‘This was an exceptional study contract that took place over three rounds and eight months. We approached it with meticulousness, methodology and modesty. For us, every competition begins with a thorough analysis of the context and the history of the site."
